Why Kung Fu?

While the focus of any martial art is self defense, kung fu also emphasizes health and fitness, and character training.

Self defense is the main goal of a martial art, like kung fu. Without the combat element, kung fu becomes a system of physical activity. The application of self defense techniques is the fundamental aim of kung fu and the focus at House of Arts.

Qin na (pronounced 'Chin na') techniques are Chinese martial art techniques that lock or hold an opponent thus subduing your opponent without hurting them unnecessarily.

Health and fitness are one of the benefits of kung fu. Through promoting flexibility, stamina, strength, and a calm yet alert mindset, a student of kung fu can work energetically, be calm yet alert, react speedily, and concentrate without feeling mental fatigue.

The third benefit of kung fu is character training. Learning through the system of kung fu stresses values like respect for teachers, respect for others, personal discipline, confidence, endurance, determination, perseverance, courage, righteousness, reverence for life, and a calm disposition.
